If you just want a random animal, here's a button generated by this gizmo:

If an entry is outlined, then it can be clicked on to expand into another list.

If you just want to see the fully expanded list, here's a link.

An entry marked * indicates that the creature is extinct.
An entry marked ** indicates that the creature is fictional.

Notes on the structure of the list:

For the most part, the tree structure of this table adheres to the actual tree of life. But I moved a few critters around so that each subtable would contain a number of entries that can be rolled using a set of dice.

There are also a few major departures from real taxonomy. First, I've lumped all the worm phyla together. Secondly, I've moved Moss Animals (similar to molluscs) and Tunicates (our close cousins) up to the category "Animals which don't seem to be animals.". And finally I have substituted actual fish taxonomy with my own, far superior, classification system.

Note that the table doesn't actually contain every animal. Really just the ones I think are neato. It it doesn't go to the species level in every clade. Instead, the maximum depth is based on  Lawful Neutral's Familiar subtables  or on my intuitive feeling for which animals are interesting in a gaming context. So the table includes subspecies of dogs, but lumps all tapeworms together.

Lastly, if you like this kind of thing, here are a few (more scientific) phylogenetic tree visualizations: 1 2.
